Scripture & Thought

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this; you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

“We sometimes fear to bring our troubles to God, because they must seem small to Him who sitteth on the circle of the earth. But if they are large enough to vex and endanger our welfare, they are large enough to touch His heart of love. For love does not measure by a merchant’s scales, not with a surveyor’s chain. It hath a delicacy…unknown in any handling of material substance.” — R.A. Torrey

In a sermon Rev. Jim Kerlin said, “The Bible says to get your mind off yourself and pray about it. Nothing is too small to pray about. Some people think they should only bother God with great big important stuff. Do you know what? God isn’t bothered at all when we pray. He wants us to pray about everything!”

I have a good friend who models the Apostle Paul’s admonition to pray about everything. My friend not only keeps a written record of the things that concern him; he has recruited a group of his personal friends to join him in his prayer journey.

Solomon wrote about a “triple-braided cord” as an example of the importance of enlisting others in our godly efforts. Solomon observed it is better than two strands bound together. He said in Ecclesiastes 4:12 –“A cord of three strands is not easily broken.”

Prayer:  Father God, forgive me for bringing to you things that sound adolescent, but your Word teaches me to pray about everything. To me that includes the high and lofty things as well as the low and soiled things – my best times and my worst times. My heart is lifted when I think that none of the things that bother me are taken lightly by you. Thank you for that. So today, Lord, I am bringing to you a few little things those have grown huge to me. Please guard my heart and mind as I try to live in Your Son, Jesus. I accept the peace that you promise to those who pray about everything.

Amen.
